My working life is as an Assessment Officer on the Assessment Development Team at the General Medical Council. I’m based in Manchester, UK.
I can be found on Twitter, FaceBook and LinkedIn but am not very active on any of these platforms. The buttons below take you there though.
First World War atrocities and more
I am promoting a book based on my PhD of 2007.
Brutality in the Trenches: The British Infantry and Atrocities on the Western Front, 1914-1918
This has now been delayed until late 2020 / early 2021.
My supervisor was Prof Joanna Bourke at Birkbeck College, University of London. My examiners were Prof Gary Sheffield and Dr Adrian Gregory.
This website also features personal blogging about my passions – the NHS, medical assessment, the Labour Party, my bipolar disorder and more – and photos – mostly of gigs, cricket and my son George.
I love the NHS and the Labour Party. I have lived successfully with a diagnosis of bipolar since I was 21.
I go to all sorts of gigs in and around Manchester. My favourite bands include Oysterband, Eric Clapton, Belle & Sebastian, Eels, Frank Turner and many more.
I follow England in all formats in London and Manchester, and, less frequently, I also follow Surrey.
